Discover the Region is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, the sixth most populated city in the United States. The Phoenix metropolitan area, also known as the Valley of Sun, is the 12th largest metro area by population in the United States with nearly 4.3 million people. The City of Phoenix, named one of the top ten best cities for new graduates by Kiplinger Magazine, is home to approximately 1.5 million people. Located in the northeastern reaches of the Sonoran Desert, Phoenix is known for its hot summers which generally last for about three months out of the year, however Phoenix also has one of the most temperate October through April climates in the country and world, making it a second home to a large population. During the temperate months between October through April the average daytime temperature ranges from 70 to 85 degrees. Phoenix also has sunny blue skies on an average of 85% of the year. Because of the weather Phoenix is home to some of the finest golf resorts and destination relaxation resorts in the country. Phoenix is also one of only a dozen or so metropolitan areas that is home to all four major league sports. The arenas and teams are some of the finest in the country.
